The Original Troll

I attempted my first sculpture many years ago. I had no books or proper tools and managed to create a winged cat. I was never happy with how my sculpture came out, and started other projects that I never finished. Several years later a book on sculpting fantasy characters ended up in my hands, and I set out to give it another shot. While on vacation I followed the step by step guide, creating a troll. I surprised myself with how easy it was compared to my first sculpt. The troll was never finished. Vacation ended and he sat in a box for a while, until I found him again. I did the best I could to repair the cracks that had formed, due to the clay drying out. I made the decision to bake him unfinished. Since then I started sculpting more on a regular basis.

I made some cutesy characters out of colored Super Sculpey but was soon bored. Then, in 2010 I finished my first full figure sculpture, a troll. This time the troll would be completed. I'm often asked why I made a troll, and of course why he's holding a head. One of the books I was reading suggested making a troll as a first sculpt because it was very forgiving of mistakes. I decided it would give him more character to be holding a head, afterall... aren't trolls supposed to be evil? At least I've never heard of a nice troll in any stories. Thus Igor came to be. I have made a few sculptures since. A druid bust, dwarven plaque and now a fairy is in the works. I'm still learning as I go and enjoy the process.
